Sunday, September 26th

We set of on our last trip of this short season in company with Ted and Bernie in Ted's 30' Iroquois cat . Had light winds on Sunday and motored most of the way to Indian harbour - another beautiful anchorage.
We had a pleasant dinner together and went to bed looking forward to some more anchorages. The weather forecast on Monday morning gave us some different ideas however. It was calling for 30 knt winds on Tuesday, so we decided to head back and make preparations for laying up. Motored back through Georgian Bay in light winds and then the wind picked up slightly in Midland bay and Ted was able to get some video of us sailing. So as soon as we can get a copy of his tape and convert it, we'll post it. Ted and Bernie decided to spend the night in Lost Bay and Teresa and I had a nice beat (until the wind died again) back to Midland.

Starting to think about laying up

Thursday 23rd September. We sailed to Bayport Yachting Center today and arrived just before the rain started. We're planning on laying up here for the winter, and we get a week of docking thrown in with the winter storage deal, so we may do some more sailing before laying up. Tomorrow the forecast is for rain and strong winds, but it's supposed to improve on Sunday. Ted has invited us to cruise in company with him and a pal on his end of season cruise from Sunday through Wednesday/Thursday. He'll bring his video camera and shoot some footage along the way. Sounds too good to miss. We'll be watching the weather forecast and are hoping to join him.

Just missed anchoring in a storm

21/22 September. The plan was to tie up at Penetanguishene, (pronounced Penetanguishene), Town Dock, do laundry, reprovision, visit the library to update the blog etc. and then anchor again at Discovery harbour. We were later than expected leaving the dock and started heading to Discovery. No sooner had we set off than the sky turned black, the winds turned against us and things started looking ugly. So we returned to the dock, tied up in 30 knt winds and learned a few docking lessons in the process. The wind then really started to howl, and did so most of the evening accompanied by thunder and lightening. Boy were we grateful not to be at anchor. Had we left earlier and anchored, we probably would have been OK (we have a big anchor), but it would have been scary for sure. We heard later that several boats in the area were damaged. Wednesday Ron develped a sore back, so we stayed put for another day.

We're in Toronto participating in the final stages (we hope!) of the building of Quinita.

It's been a long time coming but it looks like the launch is near. Ron has been working with the build team and is impressed with their attention to detail and high quality work.

Ron takes his work very seriously!

The centerboard weighs over 200 pounds.

The guys install the rear arch.
